Abstract

442,414. Discharge rectifiers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Aug. 21, 1935, No. 23491. Convention date, Aug. 24, 1934. [Class 39 (i)] A grid-controlled rectifier having an envelope consisting of insulating material has an auxiliary electrode, mounted closely adjacent to the envelope and the control grid, to which is applied a potential such that the blocking effect of the control-grid is increased. In one form, the control-grid consists of a tube with a number of apertured transverse partitions 9, and the auxiliary electrode is a coating 3 on the envelope. In a modification the control grid consists of a single apertured transverse partition, connected to a coating on the envelope which may be provided with an external metal coating over the same region. In another modification the auxiliary electrode consists of a tube mounted adjacent to the wall below and coaxially with the control grid.
