Abstract

500,356. Electron multipliers; electron gun. BOSCH, F. J. G. VAN DEN. Aug. 7, 1937, Nos. 21788/37 and 20776/38. [Class 39 (i)] In an electron multiplier the thermionic cathode is enclosed in a tube 12, Fig. 1, open at the end facing the first secondary - emitting electrode 16, the electron flow being controlled by one or more grids 15 of wire, mesh or like form. In a modification the grid 39, Fig. 4, surrounds the cathode and a concentrating electrode 40 is placed in front of the enclosing tube 38. A number of secondary-emitting electrodes 16-20 are used, preferably with mica separators 24 as described in Specification 500,189. A signal potential may be applied to either of the grid electrodes or to the enclosing tube and the remaining electrodes have steady biasses to control the electron density.
