Abstract

499,171. Electrode materials. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS'GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 11, 1938, No. 11116. Convention date, April 13, 1937. [Class 39 (i)] In order to minimize secondary emission the electrode of a discharge tube is coated with pure metallic lithium and beryllium or both. It is stated that these elements have a secondary emission whose maximum is low and occurs at a potential difference between the primary and secondary emitting electrodes of 200 volts in the case of beryllium and 100 volts for lithium. The invention is therefore particularly applicable to cathode ray and like tubes in which the potentials are greater than 200 volts. The metal is deposited from a vapour by heating or cathodic disintegration of another electrode.
