Abstract

477,262. Electron multipliers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. June 21, 1937, No. 17234. Convention date, June 23, 1936. [Class 39 (i)] The secondary-emitting electrode of a multiplier comprises an emitting layer of one or more of the oxides of the alkaline earth metals, or magnesium, or both, the thickness of the layer being not greater than 3 microns, preferably not greater than 1 micron. The layer may be deposited cataphoretically, or by vaporization from the cathode, and may consist of barium oxide. The support may be of nickel or molybdenum, or of copper or a copper alloy in which case the cathode support may also be of copper or a copper alloy.
