[Class 39 (i).] In a valve having three or more grids the turns 16, 17, 18 of the grids are arranged one behind another in a direction at right-angles to the cathode 3. The grid 17 may be a screen grid. With this arrangement the current to the screen grid due to primary electrons from the cathode is reduced. A glass rod 14, mounted on the anode 4, carries the supports for the grid and the hook 15 for the cathode. The cathode may be indirectly heated, and the electrodes may be mounted horizontally or obliquely.
