Abstract

[Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge tube comprising a cathode 1, an anode 10 and four or more grids, the first grid 2 is composed of a number of rods, and a second grid 3, which completely surrounds the cathode 1 and grid 2, is formed partly of plateshaped material. The grid 3 is provided with plates 4, 5 at the ends adjacent the rods forming the grid 2. When used as a mixing tube in a superheterodyne receiver, two of the grids 6, 8 are connected together and the grid 9 is connected to the cathode 1 ; the first two grids 2, 3 are then used as oscillator electrodes, the grids 6, 8 as screen grids, the grid 7 as a control grid and the grid 9 as a suppressor grid. The tube may also be used as a triode-hexode.
