Abstract

468,596. Thermionic valves. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE. Oct. 16, 1936, No. 28203. Convention date, Oct. 16, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A magnetron has an axial cathode arranged within a number of anodes and auxiliary electrodes, the anodes being so shaped and arranged that they or their continuations touch an imaginary circular cylinder concentric with the cathode, each at one place, the auxiliary electrodes being arranged outside the cylinder. The arrangement is such that the electron paths proceed tangentially to the anodes, and the auxiliary electrodes are almost free of the circulating electrons. As shown in Fig. 1, four flat anodes A are arranged on the sides of a square about a cathode K and auxiliary rod electrodes H are arranged within the corners but outside the imaginary cylinder touching the anodes; in a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the auxiliary electrodes are narrow plates arranged across the corners of the square. In another arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), the anodes are V-shaped. As shown in Fig. 5, the auxiliary electrodes H are in the same planes as the associated anodes A. In a further arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), two anodes and two auxiliary electrodes form the sides of a rectangle, the anodes being wider than the auxiliary electrodes.
