Abstract

487,628. Valves and valve circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and ALDOUS, W. H. May 4, 1937, No. 12707. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] In a frequency-changing valve having two control grids 3, 6 to which the frequencies to be combined are applied, the second control grid 6 controls electrons from a secondary-emitting electrode 4 of high emissivity, arranged between the two control grids. The first control grid 3 has a bias not greatly positive and preferably slightly negative to the cathode, the secondaryemitting electrode 4 is substantially positive to the cathode, the second control grid 6 is also at a substantially positive potential not very different from and preferably slightly negative to the secondary-emitting electrode 4, and there may be two screening electrodes 5, 7 positive relatively to electrodes 4, 6. In a combined heptodetriode as shown, the second control grid 6 may be connected to the anode of the triode. There may be a series of secondary-emitting electrodes each positive to the preceding one as in an electron-multiplier.
