Abstract
579,653. Thermionic valves. COSSOR, Ltd., A. C., and HODGSON, P. T. March 19, 1943, No. 4500. [Class 39 (i)] A thermionic valve for operation at high anode voltages is provided with a conductive shield 1 between the anode 2 and the other electrodes, and the shield has at least one window for the passage of electrons, the window having rounded edges 17 on the side facing the anode to reduce electric stress at these edges. The shield may be made of sheet metal. The cathode 20, and grids 21 and 22, are supported inside the shield by mica plates which themselves are supported by engaging with the grooves formed by rounding the window edges. The shield is supported by wires 3 which are provided with further shields 11 and which pass through ceramic insulators in mica discs at the top and bottom of the valve. The anode 2 is supported by wires secured to further ceramic insulators in these discs. The leads to the electrodes other than the anode are provided with a further shield which extends to within the first shield. The anode connection is taken out through the opposite end of the tube from the pinch through which pass the other connections.
