Divided out of 450,241. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] A grid-current detector particularly for use in television, comprises a valve having control electrodes insulated completely or incompletely from the inner electronic discharge space and furnished with a conductive layer arranged in the insulating coating. The Figure shows a push-pull detector valve having a of grids 20, 21 which are insulated from the electronic discharge space and provided with a conductive layer 24 on the insulating coating. The grids co-operate with a common cathode and are of similar construction and have the same amplification factor. The leak resistance 25 may be provided inside or outside the valve envelope and in the former case may be provided by making the insulating coating slightly conductive. With these arrangements, the mid-point of the input circuit can be directly earthed to give symmetry and thus remove the carrier frequency from the output circuit. The direct connection of the grids to the input circuit avoids the loss in the coupling condensers and with the reduced input capacity a larger value of grid leak may be employed.
