Abstract
654,943. Electron discharge apparatus. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. March 26, 1947, No. 8237. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A field emission cathode comprises a conducting substratum 1, an insulating layer 2 a few microns thick, and an emissive layer 3, e.g. caesium oxide. The nearest grid 4 carries a positive potential, the second grid 5 being the control grid. Some operating voltages are given. Further grids may be interposed between grid 4 and the cathode. Over a certain range the anode-current/control-gridvoltage characteristic is negative, and a possible explanation is discussed.
