Abstract
500,361. Electron - beam valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT G. , F. Aug. 7, 1937, No. 21800. [Class 39 (i)] A beam of electrons from a cathode C passes in succession through an aperture in an adjacent controlling electrode G, an aligned aperture in a screening electrode S, and an adjacent and aligned aperture in a hollow anode A to an area within it. The cathode is rectilinear and within a hollow cylindrical controlling electrode, and the apertures are rectilinear slots. The anode, which is both an accelerator and an output electrode, is also a hollow cylinder and is carbonized or has cooling fins. A wire grid or mesh may cross the aperture in the controlling electrode. According to a modification, there are two opposed apertures in the controlling electrode or in separate controlling electrodes on opposite sides of the cathode, and an apertured screen and anode is associated with each controlling aperture, Fig. 6 (not shown).
