Abstract

543,595. Thermionic cathodes. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 2. 1940, No. 13757. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1939. [Class 39 (i)] ] In cathodes such as described in Specification 540,015 wherein the emissive surfaces are formed in a number of flutes 3 emission at the meeting edges of these flutes is prevented..The flutes may be formed in separate strips 3, Fig. 6, the edges 9 of which are ground to a fine point or when the flutes are made in wide ribbons slots 8, Fig. 7, may be cut along or across -as at 14, Fig. 8-the ridges between the flutes. Rods 13 spotwelded to bridges 12 may extend along the ridges and being at cathode potential assist in forming electron beams from the fluted surfaces. The slots 8 need not pass right through the ribbon. The flutes may be used with tubular cathodes. Grids and water cooled anodes as set out in the prior Specification are used.
