517,578. Thermionic valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT, G. F. July 29, 1938, No. 22684. [Class 39 (i)] In beam valves emission from the cathode C at X directly in line with the anode P is prevented either by removing the emissive surface or by arranging a negatively biassed mask at this area. The coating may be removed by providing during manufacture a filling of argon and causing ionic bombardment of the cathode during pumping.
