Abstract

500,362. Electron - beam valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and BRETT, G. F. Aug. 7, 1937, No. 21801. [Class 39 (i)] Apertures in a controlling electrode G and an accelerating anode A are aligned with a cathode C, and an additional outer anode AA has a surface out of the direct line through the apertures. A magnetic field is applied at right angles to the line through the apertures so that electrons passing through the apertures proceed in a bent path CP. The rectilinear, cathode is concentrically within the controlling electrode, which is concentrically within, and close to, the accelerating anode, which is concentrically within, and comparatively well spaced from, the additional anode. The slots in the controlling electrode and in the accelerating anode are of the same length as the cathode. The operating parameters are so chosen and the valve so dimensioned that the path of the electrons just fail to touch the external anode when the two anodes are at equal potentials. Oscillations produced by the valve are modulated by varying the potential of the controlling electrode. The anodes may be carbonized or have cooling fins.
