Abstract
559,150. Thermionic valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. July 31, 1942, No. 10703. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] An electron - discharge device comprises a cylindrical metal envelope 1, lead in conductors sealed into one end of said envelope, a metal cylinder 4 extending longitudinally of the envelope, a cathode 5 surrounded by a grid 6, and output electrodes 8 and 9. The electron beams from the cathode under the control of the grid 6, which is connected to the input, are accelerated by an electrode 7 which may be of grid like construction. The envelope 1 may be grounded and the cylinder 4 is raised to an adjustable potential causing the beams to follow cylindrical paths and fall on electrodes 8 or 9 according to the adjustment. Anode 8 may be coated with barium oxide and thus, under the primary discharge, emit secondary electrons which pass to anode 9. In this case the output circuit is connected to anode 9. When the two anodes are placed side by side in the path of the beams the output circuit would be connected between the two anodes. A second input could then be connected to cylinder 4 and the tube operated as a converter or mixer tube. The envelope 1 is of metal such as iron.
