Abstract

537,217. Thermionic valves. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO.,. Ltd. Oct. 2, 1939, No. 27060. Convention date, Oct. 1, 1938. [Class 39 (i)] Beam valves in which the beams are caused to take curved paths and strike on one or other of two anodes in accordance with the potential on control electrodes. Fig. 3 shows mixing valve of such a type in which the electrons from the cathodes 21 are formed by a control grid 22, 22<SP>1</SP>, 23 into beams which are caused by coaxial cylindrical electrodes 24, 25 to take curved paths to the electrodes 26, 27. The output circuit 30 is connected between the electrode 26 and the positive end of the battery 19 ; the input circuit 28 is connected between the cathode 21 and the control grid, and a local oscillating voltage is applied to the electrode 25. A volume control voltage may be connected between the cathode 21 and the electrode 24. Modifications are described, including one in which the local oscillating circuit is connected to an auxiliary cathode and grid within the electrode 25.
