Abstract

521,762. Thermionic valves. M-O VALVE CO., Ltd., BALLANTINE, R. J., and JAMES, E. G. Nov. 25, 1938, No. 34374. [Class 39 (i)] A valve for use in a frequency changing circuit has surrounding the indirectly heated cathode 1 (i) an intensity-control grid 2 which receives the input signal (ii) a cylindrical slotted electrode 3 for concentrating the emission into beams (iii) deflecting electrodes 4 to which the local oscillatory circuit is connected and (iv) output electrodes 5, which are separated by an electrode 11<SP>1</SP> biassed negatively to the electrodes 5. Accelerating electrodes 6 may be used between the cylinder 3 and the deflectors. The electrode 11<SP>1</SP> may be of lattice form and may have a wire 11<SP>11</SP> extending in front of it, or may be only the wire 11<SP>11</SP>. The description contains dimensions and voltages for a specific example. The two anode halves on each side of the cathode are connected to a circuit resonant at the desired output frequency, the anode plates being biassed through a connection to the central point of the output inductance. Specifications 451,618 and 482,226 are referred to.
