Abstract

679,428. Thermionic valves. BONADIO, G. A. Sept. 28, 1950 [Oct. 22, 1949; July 11, 1950], No. 23736/50. Class 39 (i). The control electrode of an electron discharge tube is formed by a flat plate 10, Fig. 3, connected to the cathode 13, having therein a circular aperture 9, a small pointed member 8 terminating at the centre of the aperture functioning as the control electrode proper. As shown in Fig. 4, the plate may have several such apertures 9 and pointed members 8. Instead of the point of member 8 being located actually in the plane of the plate, as in Fig. 3, it may be to one side or the other, Figs. 3a and 3b (not shown). Grid-voltage/anode-current curves obtained with this type of control electrode have a curvature opposite to those given by conventional grids, and it is suggested that substantially linear characteristics can be obtained by utilizing both types of control electrodes together, possibly in the same envelope.
