Abstract

[Class 39 (i)] Discharge devices with means for regulating the output of anode current both by space charge and deflection control. Fig. 1 shows an arrangement comprising a cathode 1 with an element 2 for concentrating the electron stream into a flat band, a grid 4 for space charge control, and a deflecting plate 5. The anode 7 has a slanting edge, so that the proportion of the electron stream intercepted by it varies with the deflection ; the grid 4 may be dispensed with and the plate 5 arranged to give both deflection and space charge control. Fig. 2 shows an arrangement with a cathode 1, a number of radial control plates 4, preferably negatively biassed, an anode 7 and a number of screening grid plates 6. The variation of potential on the plates 4 varies the concentration of the electron streams leaving the cathode 1 and consequently the proportion intercepted by the grid 6.
