Abstract

457,340. Thermionic valves ;amplifying and detecting circuits. JENSEN, C. A. SCHLEIMANN-, 56, Hyldegaardsvej, Charlottenlund, Denmark. May 30, 1935, No. 15814. Convention date, July 6, 1934. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] An amplifying or rectifying arrangement comprises a valve in which the fraction of the electron stream caught by an electrode flows through an impedance thus effecting further control by potential variation, and in which the electron stream is concentrated and directed so that substantially the whole electron current proceeds to the anode. The valve may have a pair of oppositely disposed control electrodes x, y which are both connected to the receiving circuit Fig. 6, or one of the electrodes may be held at fixed potential, Fig. 7 (not shown). The input is connected in series with the impedance R1 which produces the potential which effects the further control. Fig. 3 shows an arrangement in which the electrons are concentrated by a cylinder d and a single catching electrode s is employed associated with an anode a2 and a negatively charged electrode r which reflects the electrons back to the catching electrode. The control may be further increased by the provision of a grid e connected to the electrode s. Fig. 5 shows an arrangement in which a screen grid f and a suppressor grid are employed. An accelerating electrode a1 may be provided between the concentrating electrode and the control electrode. The potential of the concentrating electrode may be varied by manual or automatic means to control the sensitivity as by using the voltage across the impedance R1. Reaction may be employed by backcoupling to the input the anode circuit Fig. 7 (not shown), or an auxiliary anode or accelerating electrode circuit.
