Abstract

622,679. Thermionic valves. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31239. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] In an electric discharge tube having at least two control grids 5, 6, and a screen grid 7 on the cathode side of one of these grids, the screen grid is built up from a plurality of plate-shaped parts of which the broad faces are parallel to the electron paths. With such a construction electrons passing from the first grid 5 are substantially unimpeded by the grid 7, whereas any electrons repelled by grid 6 acquire a transverse velocity and are thus collected by 7. The grid 7 may consist of a plurality of strip-shaped parts, as shown in the Figure, or of a plurality of flat rings perpendicular to the cathode. It may also be formed as a honeycomb structure. Such a grid is stated to be particularly suitable for use in frequency-changing valves.
