Abstract

829,423. Thermionic valves. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 19, 1956 [Oct. 21, 1955], No. 31923/56. Class 39(1). In a tube having beamforming electrodes 24 which confine the beam between the screen grid 23 and the anode 16, the anode has means such as the embossments 25, 26 extending into the space charge region to vary the field configuration therein so as to suppress spurious oscillations and substantially eliminate the negative transconductance region. The anode may consist of two similar members 27, 28 joined together along wings 19, 19<SP>1</SP> acting as cooling fins. It is stated that this construction gives a more rounded configuration to the " knee " of the tube characteristic, and Fig. 3 (not shown) compares graphically the characteristics of the present tube with prior tubes.
