Abstract

644,095. Electron discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL, Ltd. Jan. 5, 1948, No. 317. Convention, date, Jan. 8, 1947. [Class 39 (i)] A tube is provided with a cathode 1, a perforated anode 5 and a flat secondaryemission electrode 6, the electrons being bunched by electrostatic focusing rods 4 so that they pass through the anode to impinge on the electrode 6 mounted at right-angles to the cathode and provided with a salient point or ledge 7 facing the cathode. The tube may have a grid 3 outside which the rods 4 are mounted and emission may take place on both sides of the cathode. In Fig. 2, the electrodesystem is fused into the glass envelope 10, the secondary-emission electrode 20 being a disc with a pip 21 which is aligned with an aperture 19 in the anode 17 which also carries a focusing screen 18. The envelope is extended to provide a cooling tank 22.
