Abstract
674,926. Cathode-ray tubes. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Feb. 27, 1948 [Aug. 30, 1946], No. 6133/48. Class 39 (i). A memory tube as described in Specification 674,925 has the control grid connections modified so that only two grid networks are, required for control of as many as one million memory elements. In one form, Fig. 1, a " group of one " system of connections is used, i.e. each set of grid wires is connected to a single group of leads, for example as shown by the heavy dots. Each pair of leads is thus connected to only one pair of adjacent grid wires, so that individual control over every grid "window" obtains. There are n leads and n(n-1)/2 grid spaces in each network (n is odd). In the other form, Fig. 2, useful for decimal system computers, each set of grid wires is connected to two equal or unequal groups of leads a, b so that a+b leads control a X b grid spaces. In both forms the sets of grid wires may be horizontal and vertical in a flat or cylindrical segment or cylindrical electrode arrangement, or may be concentric helices 17, 23, Fig. 4, wound in opposite directions. The helices 17, 23 are carried in mica supports 19, 21. The target 25 may fluoresce as well as serve for memory storage. The leads are all taken out at one end of glass envelope 27. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states that in the Group of one system of connections, n may be even. The memory screen may be replaced by a fluorescent screen. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
