Abstract

537,492. Thermionic valves ; electron oscillators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and FREMLIN, J. H. Dec. 22, 1939, No. 32817. [Class 39 (i)] An electron oscillating discharge device comprises a linear cathode C and anti-cathode L, a grid G consisting of two rods parallel to the cathode and anti-cathode, and an apertured positive electrode, the arrangement of the electrodes and potential distribution being such as to produce a parabolic distribution of potential along the line C, L, the vertex of the parabola being at the centre O of the aperture in the positive electrode. In the arrangement shown the apertured electrode is formed by rods A, but it may consist of the metal envelope of the tube, which is shaped to produce the required distribution. A magnetic field parallel to the line C, L prevents lateral dispersion of the electrons.
