Abstract

655,409. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 2, 1947, No. 26595. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a magnetron the anode members are made up of U-shaped pieces of hollow copper tubing 11, Fig. 1, attached to the inner surface of the cylindrical copper envelope 1, and the passages in the anode members are connected with passages 12, 16; 13, 13<SP>1</SP> formed between members 1, 14 so that the whole anode system can be water cooled. Alternate and intermediate anode members are connected together by ring straps 17, 18. The output is taken by strap 43 to a central terminal 38 and thence along a coaxial line attached to 38, 42. Cupshaped terminal 38 is sealed into dome-shaped insulator 39 which is sealed at its lower end to sheet metal member 40. Member 40 terminates in flange 41 which is bonded to ring 42 sealed to member 1. The magnetic circuit is formed by coil 37, yoke 37<SP>1</SP>, and polepieces 20, 36 of frusto-conical shape. The cathode 19 is directly heated; one end thereof is connected to stud 30 and thence to cup-shaped terminal 28, and the other terminal thereto is connected through end shield 33, post 32, end shield 34, and lead 35 to cylinder 31 and thence to terminal 27. Members 25, 26, 27, 29, 28 are alternately metal and insulating material and member 25 is secured to washer 21 supporting polepiece 20 by a flange at 23. An exhaust tube 46 is provided.
