Abstract

626,293. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 13, 1945, No. 6322. Convention date, March 14, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A magnetron comprises a concentric transmission line type of cavity resonator of which the inner conductor forms the polepieces 11, 12. The anode structure comprises a number of radially extending conducting members 27 secured to the outer conductor 10, and a corresponding number of oppositely situated segments 28 interconnecting the inner conductors 11, 12. Members 27 and segments 28 are equally spaced from the cathode 13. The cathode 13 is supported on a tube 23 which also carries the heater leads, passing through the polepiece 12. The outer conductor 10 is preferably of copper or silver. The polepieces 11, 12 are energized by a solenoid 14 contained in a magnetic yoke 40, 15, 38, but may be permanently magnetized. The cavity resonator may be tuned by providing at one end an adjustable piston having spring fingers contacting the inner and outer conductors, and operable outside the vacuum. The relative lengths of polepieces 11, 12 may be so chosen that the optimum mode of operation is obtained.
