Abstract
641,086. Magnetrons. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 12, 1947, No. 6916. Convention date, Sept. 27, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] A multicavity magnetron is tuned by an axially-extending auxiliary emissive cathode disposed in at least one of the cavities in proximity to the opening of the cavity into the main cathode chamber. Emissive filaments 23 are disposed in the slots 15 of a slot-and-hole type multicavity magnetron, thus varying the capacities across the slots. The filaments 23 project from opposite ends of the resonant cavities 14 where they are supported by radial tensioning arms 24 from conductive rings 19 insulatively supported from the anode block 12. The filaments may be directly or indirectlyheated and the emission varied by control of the heating current, or by a modulating potential applied between the filaments and the anode block, or the filaments may be secondary emissive and the emission varied similarly by a modulating potential.
