Abstract

648,826. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 11, 1947, No. 9726. Convention date, April 15, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] A magnetron comprises an insulating cylinder 1 sealed at each end to a marginal disc portion 5 of an end structure 2, 3 having a cylindrical part 4 coaxial with the cylinder, a plurality of elongated anode elements 9, 13 arranged in a circular array, with the individual elements extending in parallel and mutually spaced relation, alternate elements being supported respectively by the end structures 2, 3, and an axial cathode 16 supported by and insulated from the end structure 3. Magnetic polepieces 22, 27 are supported within the cylindrical part 4 of the end structures. The anode elements 9, 13 are supported by and may be integral with rings 14, 15 received within the cylindrical parts 4 of the end structures 2, 3. The helical cathode 16 has an end shield 17 and is connected with a cylindrical block 18. The block 18 is supported by a sleeve 19 forming one terminal for the cathode. The other terminal is provided by the rod 25 connected to the cathode centre post 23. The rod 25 is sealed to the sleeve 19 at 26. A sleeve 20 secured to the annular polepiece 22 is sealed to the sleeve 19 at 21. The annular polepiece 27 receives a sleeve 27<SP>1</SP> extending to an exhaust and getter chamber 28. The magnetron is mounted so that the end structures 2, 3 are received in the side walls of a flat cavity resonator which includes a pair of movable tuning plungers and which may be formed in two parts to facilitate mounting of the magnetron in the resonator. Specification 613,423 is referred to. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 613,423 and 616,871.
