Abstract
640,255. Magnetrons. RADIO CORPORATION OF AMERICA. March 17, 1947, No. 7363. Convention date, March 16, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a magnetron the cathode 13, Fig. 2, is so shaped as to have a plurality of plane surfaces, and only some, 28, of the surfaces are coated with emissive material, the coated surfaces being so disposed as to be relatively inaccessible to wrongly phased electrons returning to the cathode. The cathode may be a star-shaped nickel body, as shown, or may consist of radial fins 31 attached to a cylinder 30, Fig. 4, or of a cylinder with inclined punched-out fins, Fig. 5 (not shown). The cathode is indirectly heated in all forms and is supported by glass bead and wire support members from the anode, Fig. 3 (not shown). The anode 10, Fig. 2, has radial members 11 with cavity resonators in between. A permanent magnet provides the magnetic field.
