Abstract

653,750. Electron discharge apparatus. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF TECH. NICAL SERVICES OF. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 5984. Convention date, March 4, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A magnetron which has an anode divided into a number of cavity resonators by radial vanes 6 is provided with an external cavity resonator 12 having a central coaxial conductor 13 which is joined to one of the anode vanes. A portion of the conductor 13 may be flared out to form a plate 15 and the wall of the resonator may be provided with a block 16 opposite the plate 15. An electron beam from a cathode 25, Fig. 3, controlled by a grid 26, may be fired between the plate 15 and block 16 so that the effective dielectric constant of the space may be varied to tune the resonator and hence the magnetron. The magnetron may also be tuned by a screw 19, Fig. 2, which moves three concentric cylinders 21, 22, 23, around and between the anode straps 9 and 10.
