Abstract
645,189. Magnetrons. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 8, 1947, No. 21920. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a tunable magnetron comprising a plurality of coupled cavity resonators separated at least in part from one another by an anode, and tuned by altering their volume, the separation between the anode and the cathode is also adjustable. The cathode 1 is mounted on flexible bellows 4 closing one end of the metallic cylinder 6. The anode comprises a metallic vane 8 parallel to the cathode. The vane is sealed through a vitreous partition 7 sealing off the envelope, and divides the cylinder 6 into two resonant cavities. The resonant cavities are tuned by the adjustment of a piston 9. Optimum operation is secured by adjustment of the bellows 4. The vane 8 tapers into the inner conductor 10 of a coaxial output line whose outer conductor forms a continuation of the cylinder 6.
