Abstract

644,853. Electric resonators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 13, 1946, No. 17694. Convention date, May 12, 1945. [Class 40 (viii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] A resonant structure is tuned by means of variable capacitance, e.g. discs 23, 24, at the outer end of a concentric transmission line 21, 22, having a characteristic impedance which increases progressively outwards from the structure. The anode structure of a magnetron comprises vanes 2 ; alternate vanes being conductively connected by circular straps 15, 16. The outer conductor 21 of the line forms part of one vane connected to the strap 16 and the inner conductor 22 is connected to the strap 15. The disc 24 is carried by a diaphragm 25 connected to the conductor 21, and by rotating a cap 27 the disc 24 is adjustable axially through a rod 28 having a flange 31. The transmission line is sealed by a bellows 30. The output connection to the anode may comprise a concentric line connected to an adjacent vane and to the envelope 1, Fig. 2 (not shown).
