Abstract
863,471. Cavity resonators. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. July 26, 1957 [Aug. 16, 1956], No. 33727/59. Divided out of 863,470. Class 40(8) [Also in Group XL(a)] The inductance of loop 23 coupling a coaxial line 9, 18 to a cavity 1, of e.g. a klystron, is compensated by a capacitative discontinuity in the form of a slug 24 which may be attached to the inner conductor 9. The outer conductor 18 is formed with an oval bore 21 communicating with the cavity at one end and, at the other, with a circular bore 19 extending in the direction of the major axis of the oval bore. This arrangement facilitates assembly. The cavity 1 is vacuum-sealed by an annular window 14 which is described and claimed in Specification 863,470. The resonant frequency of the coupling is so arranged in relation to the tuning range of the cavity that an increase in coupling is effected as the resonant frequency of the cavity is increased. This compensates a corresponding decrease in beam coupling.
