969,490. Velocity-modulated beam tubes. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Dec. 2, 1960 [Dec. 16, 1959], No. 13951/63. Divided out of 969,488. Heading HID. A transmission line for coupling high frequency wave energy from one structure to another, e.g. a klystron as described in Specification 969,488 comprises inner and outer conductors 53, 54 coaxially disposed, a strap member 52 connecting the inner and outer conductors and vacuum-sealing the end of the inner conductor, thereby forming an inductive coupling loop and an annular ceramic wavepermeable window member 57 coaxially disposed and vacuum-sealing the space between the inner and outer conductors, the window member being of such dimensions and so disposed so as to present a net capacitance discontinuity in the transmission line suitable to transform the load impedance presented by one of the structures to the other substantially to the optimum impedance over a wide range of frequencies.
