Abstract

726,043. Velocity-modulated tubes. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Aug. 11, 1953 [Aug. 11, 1952], No. 22137/53. Class 39 (1) [Also in Group XL (b) ]. A cavity resonator 18 for a klystron or other electron discharge device is tuned by moving a member 23 which is conductively connected to parts 24, 25 by means of flexible straps 26, 27 each having a single loop, Fig. 2a, which rolls along the length of the strap as the member 23 is moved. The resonator is vacuum tight; and metallic bellows 28 are used to provide a hermetic seal. The straps may be made of stainless steel or chrome iron, having their inner surfaces coated with a thin layer of silver or copper.
