Abstract
656,521. Velocity-modulated tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Aug. 26, 1947, No. 23554. Convention date, May 4, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] A velocity-modulated tube comprises a hollow conducting body 4 provided with a pair of inwardly-projecting flanges 3, 7 which together with a pair of metal discs 8, 8<SP>1</SP> capacitatively coupled to the flanges, divide the body 4 into two separated cavity resonators. The discs 8, 81 are unitary with the drift tube 11 that may be brought to a constant potential different from that of the body 4. Each flange 3, 7 overlaps the corresponding disc 8, 81 by a quarter-wavelength, so as to ensure close coupling between the discs and the flanges and to prevent the leakage of electromagnetic field from one cavity resonator to the other.
