Abstract
981,744. Klystrons. VARIAN ASSOCIATES. Sept. 27, 1962 [Oct. 30, 1961], No. 16523/64. Divided out of 981,742. Heading H1D. An electron discharge device, e.g. a klystron, has a rectangular output waveguide 45 coupled at one end to the device and having a wavepermeable, gas-tight window sealed in the waveguide, wherein two vanes 51, 52 are disposed in the waveguide between the device and the window, each vane presenting a reactive impedance and the vanes being so disposed that they form a baffle obscuring all straight line paths from the device to the window and thereby shield the window from particle bombardment. As shown, the vanes extend from opposite walls of the waveguide and are approximately a quarter of a wavelength apart so as to provide a substantially reflectionless obstacle at the passband of the device.
