[Also in Group XL (b)] A magnetron 4 is matched to a wave-guide 7 by a pair of transformer vanes 10, 11 whose adjacent edges 12, 13 run parallel to each other for a distance #/4 adjacent the coupling slot 6 and then gradually diverge towards the walls of the guide 7. The parallel and divergent portions may be separated by a discontinuity in the form of a shoulder (not shown). The axis of the coupling slot 6 may lie at an angle to the axis of the guide 7 to prevent electrons escaping into the guide. The magnetron and the guide are sealed by a dielectric window.
