Abstract
778,299. High-frequency discharge apparatus. ELECTRIC & MUSICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 7, 1955 [July 27, 1954], No. 21850/54. Class 39(1). [Also in Group XL(b)] An output window for a klystron or magnetron comprises a plate of refractory material having a single optic axis, the plate being sealed across an apertured diaphragm and the optic axis being so orientated that reflections which arise in the window and at the edge of the diaphragm are mutually cancelling. A plate 2 of artificial sapphire (crystalline alumina) may be sealed to a pair of diaphragms 3, 4 made of a nickelcobalt-iron alloy. The seal may be made by applying powdered glass to the joint and healing the assembly to fuse the glass. The edges 5, 6 of the diaphragm are welded to the waveguide 1. With this construction cancellation of reflections from the edge of the plate 2 is obtained by arranging the optic axis 15 of the window parallel to the waveguide axes. In another construction, Fig. 2 (not shown) one of the diaphragms 3, 4 is omitted and cancellation of reflections is obtained by arranging the optic axis at an angle to the waveguide axes,
