Abstract

644,606. Velocity-modulated tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Sept. 8, 1947, No. 24651. Convention date, April 12, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] In a velocity-modulation tube, an annular beam of electrons is projected successively across a modulation gap 4 in a cavity resonator 3, a drift-tube 5 and a pick-up gap 7 in cavity resonator 6. The beam has a cross-over in each gap. It is then reflected by an electrode 8 back through the resonator 6 to reinforce the oscillations therein. The reflector electrode and the drift-tube 5 are so shaped that the forward and reflected electron beam paths are separated except at their common cross-over. The reflected beam is collected after emerging again from the second resonator 6 by an annular electrode 10 encircling the drift-space. Specification 580,081 is referred to.
