Abstract

534,696. Electron oscillators. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and BLACK, D. H. Sept. 13, 1939, No. 25695. [Class 39 (i)] In an ultra-high frequency oscillator of the velocity modulated type using two resonators, these are in the form of co-axial cylinders of annular cross-section. The cathode 1 is centrally arranged the annular cylinders 4, 6 and 8, 10 being of grid form around the cathode; the grids are constructed of rods 3, 5, 7, 9 radially arranged. A space charge control grid 2 surrounds the cathode and an anode 11 is outside the outer resonator. Annular discs 16, 19, 17, 18 close the resonators and by adjustment of an end disc tuning may be effected. The drift tube wherein the electrons are bunched is formed by annular discs 25, 26 between the cylinders. Oscillations may be taken off by the concentric line 12, 13 and feed back is effected by a loop 14 one limb of which is in a connecting tube 15 and the other outside this tube; the amount of coupling is determined by the size of the loop projecting in one or other resonator. In a modification the grids in the outer resonator may be: formed by radially set strips of metal 7, 9, Fig. 4 ; the walls of the cylinders being placed on the inner and outer circumferences of these strips Specification 523,712 is referred to.
