Abstract
612,415. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. March 28, 1945, No. 7892. Convention date, March 29, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] In a magnetron having a cathode surrounded by an anode structure defining a plurality of cavity resonators, alternate and intermediate anode segments are connected by ring-like straps. In one form, Fig. 1, an anode. 21 supports a plurality of slats or fins projecting from its inner cylindrical surface, and each slat has end slots for receiving strapping rings 46, 461, Figs. 5, 6. Each ring has deformations 48 for contacting alternate anode segments. In a modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the end slots are stepped to locate the strapping rings. The magnetic polepieces 24<1>, 251, Fig. 1, co-operate with magnetic inserts 24, 25, the member 24 supporting the cathode and the cathode and members 24, 25 being supported by bridging members 26, 27 insulatingly bolted to the anode. The envelope 35, 36 is of stainless steel; cooling fins are provided at its lower end, Fig. 2 (not shown). In another form, Fig. 13, the anode block has a plurality of slots which may or may not be enlarged at their outer ends, and the strapping rings 59, 60 have no deformations, but are carried by members 54, 57, having' portions in contact with alternate and intermediate anode segments respectively. The element 54, originally of the. shape shown in Fig. 14, and the element 57, originally a stepped ring, are placed in position in the end slots and severed where they cross the resonators, alternate portions of the ring 57 being removed. Alternatively, the parts 57 may be originally formed as sectors and placed direct on alternate anode segments. In further modifications, Figs. 16-18 (not shown), each strapping ring has sectoral extensions. The Specification as-open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a form, Figs. 19, 20 (Cancelled) (not shown), in which the strapping rings are incorporated in laminae from which the anode is built up. In a modification of Fig. 13, the member 57 is built up of two laminµ, the rest of the anode being also made up of laminµ. Alternatively, in a non-laminated construction, the member 57 may have intermediate portions of less width which are severed where they cross the resonators. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
