Abstract

654,585. Magnetrons. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 12, 1948, No. 4156. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1942. [Class 39 (i)] In a multicavity magnetron, electron permeable areas are provided in the partitions between the resonant cavities so that electrons can travel from one of the resonant cavities to the neighbouring resonant cavity. The cylindrical hollow anode 9, Fig. 1, surrounding the cathode 3, comprises longitudinal rods 12 secured to the ends 10, 11 of the anode, and placed within the vicinity of the apertures 13, 14 in the ends 10, 11. Rods 15 extending from the longitudinal walls of the anode 9 to the longitudinal rods 12 form radial electronpermeable partitions. In another embodiment, the anode comprises a plurality of discs each comprising a plurality of circumferentially spaced resonant cavities in communication with a central enlarged opening. These discs are spaced apart by intermediate discs of larger internal diameter than the central openings. In another embodiment the anode comprises a metallic cylinder 41, Fig. 5, provided with a plurality of inwardly extending protuberances 42 defining therebetween a plurality of resonant regions 43 interconnected by a plurality of circumferential channels.
