Abstract

585,447. Thermionic valves; artificial lines. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and TOMLIN, S. G. May 10, 1941, No. 6073. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] An ultra-high frequency amplifier comprises an input resonator 1 and an output resonator 1<1> in alignment with a discharge valve 5 between them, as shown in Fig. 1, the resonators are of coaxial line type. The cathode 6 is connected to the inner conductor 3 of the input resonator and the anode 8 to inner conductor 3<1> of the output resonator. The grid 7 has a metal extension passing outside the discharge valve envelope to form a screen 11 between the two resonators being capacity coupled to both. Adjustable, concentric line input and output leads 12, 13 and-14, 15 are provided and tuning of the resonators may be effected by the sliding pistons 4, 4<1>. In a modification a hollow disc resonator DR, Fig. 3, is used for the output, the anode 8 being mounted on a wall of this resonator ; a similar form of resonator may be used for the input. The grid 7 is carried by an annular copper disc 11 sealed through the envelope 9. The disc resonator is tuned by screwing plugs into the chamber, or the copper disc 16 is corrugated and made movable.
