Abstract

456,450. Valve circuits for amplifying. WHITE, E. L. C., 32, The Rise, Hilling- don, Middlesex. April 3, 1935, No. 10394. [Class 40 (v)] In a direct-coupled cascade amplifier for a wide range of frequencies in which the anode load impedance and anode impedance of a first valve can together be represented by a pure resistance R in series with an impedance Z, and in which the first valve is coupled to a second valve through an impedance Z<1> and a leak R<1> is provided between the grid and cathode of the second valve, the relationship Z<1>/Z = R<1>/R is maintained. In the case of a tetrode as shown in Fig. 1 the anode impedance of the first valve can be ignored and R = the coupling resistance R3, Z = R2/1+j#C2R2 , Z<1>=R<1>2/1+j#C<1>2R<1>2 and R<1>=R<1>3. Preferably, the leak resistance R<1>3 is much greater than R3. When the first valve is a triode, the calculations must take into account the effect of the anode impedance as a shunt to the anode load impedance. In a modification, Fig. 5 in which additional de-coupling elements R5, C5 are provided, additional coupling elements R5, C<1>5 are provided also. In all cases the time constants C2R2 and C<1>2 R<1>2 are equal and also C2R3 and C<1>2 R13.
