Abstract

542,930. Valve amplifying circuits. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. July 30, 1940, No. 12343. Convention date, Aug. 2, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] In an amplifier the exciting voltage is applied to the cathode from an impedance in the cathode lead of the preceding stage. Fig. 1 shows a high frequency amplifier in which the tuned circuit 4, 5 forms the coupling impedance and inductances 8, 9 neutralise the inherent capacities of the two stages. The arrangement is also applicable to wideband amplifiers by using resistance coupling. An inductance in series with the plate load resistance may be provided to maintain the response at high frequencies and an impedance may be arranged in series with the grid of the output stage to modify the response. Fig. 3 shows a push-pull audio amplifier operating in Class B using chokes 31, 32 for coupling. The valves may be double triodes in a common envelope.
