Abstract

515,762. Valve amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd., and GREEN, E. June 11, 1938, No. 17417. [Class 40 (v)] Distortion in a driven high frequency amplifier due to the effect of the non-linear load imposed by its grid on the driving amplifier is overcome by arranging the input and output circuits in series with the valve. The grid of VI is earthed through condenser C4 which may be adjustable to neutralize the inductance of the grid lead. Input is applied from L1 to the tuned circuit L2 C2 connected between the valve cathode and earth while the output is taken from the circuit L3 C3 in the anode lead. Due to this arrangement the input contributes power to the output and there is in effect a rectilinear load on the input circuit which " swamps " non-rectilinearity due to grid current. The cathode of the valve may be heated from an earthed supply by employing two conductors in parallel for inductance L2 and using them to carry the heating current. The two conductors may be arranged coaxially with insulation between. An embodiment of the invention using valves in push-pull is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 489,289 and 491,803.
