Abstract

496,872. Valve amplifying circuits. WHITE, E. L. C., and HARDWICK, J. March 6, 1937, No. 6685. [Class 40 (v)] In a single-stage amplifier designed to produce no reversal of phase, particularly for television signals, the signals are applied across a resistance 6 which is large compared with the reciprocal of the mutual conductance of the valve, the resistance being connected in series in the anode circuit and between the cathode and grid. The grid is connected effectively to earth, e.g. through a bias battery 4, and the output is taken from an impedance 16 in the anode circuit. The input impedance is low and is matched to the source, if necessary, by adding resistance. A battery 7 opposes the voltage drop in resistance 6 so that normally there is no difference of potential between input terminals 1, 2. In a modification, Fig. 2, the grid is connected to earth through a condenser 11, and a resistance 12 provides a direct-current path between grid and cathode, resistance 14 providing the grid bias. Condensers 10, 13 are connected as shown and an inductance 17 and resistance 18 are connected in series across the input terminals to maintain the input impedance constant. The invention may be applied to amplifiers joined by a short length of cable, the two valves at the ends of the cable being fed from a common high-tension source and operating in push-pull. Specification 482,740 is referred to.
